I mean, I don’t think you can say the world is more imploding now than it was when Superman was made by two Jewish kids in the late ’30s. When their cousins and grandparents are being killed overseas. He was born into an imploding world as an American ideal — he’s always stood for that and been that. -- Tom King
I've been a fan of Tom since his days on Grayson, so although he's probably better known for his 12-issue 'war-is-hell' epics, I still primarily think of him as writing fun formalist done-in-ones. I've got two young boys who haven't quite figured out what a knucklehead their old man is, so it's fantastic to be drawing a story about Superman trying to live up to the high standards of his own father. -- Chris Burnham

So part of what I'm doing tends to also, like, teach an overview of the character because I can't escape from that; I've got to talk about what they mean in the real-world, even in the context of a story. So that stuff tends to be like "How do we view Superman? How do we view Batman?" You know, there's guys like Moon Knight and Nighthawk. If you put characters like that against them and push-and-pull against them, you kind of get to see why Batman is still the coolest of all. -- Grant Morrison
