Many millenniums ago, Darkseid was a mudfarmer. Who put the old gods against each other and when they were weakened by their war. Darkseid took the opportunity to kill them and take thier power for himself.

Izaya was married to Darkseid sister. Who got critically hurt during the old gods war with each other and he beg his god to save her.

Interesting how Darkseid have kill many parallel universe Supermen.

The devil isn't supposed to be a threat for a good man? I mean, I think I see where you're coming from, but that only works if you're accepting very specific definitions where 'devil' means 'Judeo-Christian tempter figure, without power beyond that granted him for ill defined reasons by a more powerful spiritual figure" and good means "blanket immunity to all forms of temptation, great or small."

I don't know. While you may think I'm moving the goal post here I always enjoyed reading Greek mythology when I was younger and it seems to me most stories I read there the monsters heroes face were said to have killed a lot, but as soon as someone decided they weren't going to die the monster problem was as good as solved. The monsters and demons couldn't handle someone challenging them. The only problems were with other men or gods, who were like supposed to be above good and evil basically.

That's a bit of an odd way to look at it. I would suggest that the reason the monsters never seemed to be a problem were because the stories tend to follow the ones who successfully killed it, (who were only occasionally *just men*, and quite often descended fairly recently from the gods, but that's another argument).

But you're right, that *is* changing the goal posts. Greek gods/monsters are a completely different issue, in terms of the role they fill in stories, then Devil figures. Which are different again from what the New Gods are, although they draw on both.

still, is Darkseid usually called a devil? DC has devils, beings like Neron and Satanus.

And while the stories followed the ones who killed it I think "No one can stand to this beast, it will surely kill us all," was far more common than "The creature has killed our best men, all out efforts against it have failed." though I'm sure the second one happened to.

Still I find I have more and more problems with this the more I think about it. For one thing it shows the plot armor of the main character.

But as for this story it could easily be shown as a lie told by Darkseid later. This makes him far more big you know. His parents are now nothing, as opposed to a being who could threaten him. It gives him actual claim to Mr. Miracle since he's now his uncle. It ties his arch enemy to him, it makes the Old Gods look like fools, it gives the Lowlies on Apokalips hope he can crush
