But I suppose it depends on what one considers to be a reasonable return on investment...

After this rather depressing set of images from... I honestly can't remember the name of the crossover it happened in and it's too late and I'm too tired to bother looking it up (I got these via Google Images)

nc1

nc2

NC3

And after a teaser image a couple of weeks ago, Marvel confirmed at SDCC thateveryone's favourite fuzzy elf IS coming back, or is at least being sought out

Oooh, very Dave Cockrum... though I think I could have lived without seeing Azazal again... EVER.

CBR's article on the matter

Oddly, they feel the need to launch an entire new title to do it, with Jason Aaron on wirting and Ed McGuinness on art.

The team that assembles to go hunting for Kurt is made up of Storm, Wolverine (no surprises there), Firestar (Why? Has she ever even MET Kurt?), Northstar, Iceman and Beast.

What sets the events of this story in motion? What causes Wolverine to put together a team to try and find Nightcrawler and perhaps bring him back?

This story is really about Nightcrawler calling for help from the afterlife and again it ties in with the explanation of the Bamfs. What are the Bamfs? Why are they here? And what have they been up to all this time? We'll get answers to those questions in "Amazing X-Men" #1.

So this is a rescue mission for the cast of "Amazing X-Men?" Will any of the team members feel some ambiguity about what they're doing? Will some of them believe Nightcrawler is at peace and they should not disturb that?

There's some of both of that. Nightcrawler was a man of great faith so presumably he'd be at peace and at rest in the afterlife. So for him to step away from that and go on one last adventure would have to mean a great threat has arisen. As I mentioned, that threat revolves around his own father.

Could be fun... I hope, I know that Aaron has something of a patchy record of popularity here with WATXM, a title I have little interest in myself, but....

So, anyone else pleased/appalled to seem him come back?

Second Coming.

I'll check it out but yeah, I'm disappointed that it will be written by Aaron. I don't like his style on light/funny stuff.

ETA: of course I'm very happy Kurt is back regardless ^^

I'm happy to see Kurt coming back. I'm probably not gonna read the book unless I hear really good things about it.

(No Kitty, Rachel, Brian, or Meggan? Pass.)

Looks like Bobby's evil thing isn't gonna stick.

Also, man, that revival did not take that long. Did he even hit the five year mark?

Firestar (Why? Has she ever even MET Kurt?)

Once, way back in Uncanny X-Men #193, her very first 616 appearance.

She's one of the few mutants who's never done a tour of duty at Xavier's, so I guess it's about time.

That was pretty much Aaron's explanation of why he grabbed her, over on Comics Alliance.

I can't help but think the belief that every mutant character *needs* to have a tour of duty at Xavier's to be wrong-headed. It's just so... predictable.

I feel the same way, probably give it a few years once the whole Disassemble/House of M/Decimation is forgotten about and some one will have Wanda join just because she is a mutant.

Not every mutant character has to be an X-Man. If there was any team I would have thought she would be on in the up coming months I would have thought it would be the New Warriors.

Not every mutant. Pete Wisdom has/had never even met Professor Xavier, to my knowledge. (Nor the Profile from Moon Knight's run by Charlie Huston...)

What about Bullseye. Yeah, I realize the mutant thing was always just speculation but it would crack me up to see a hired gun with no obvious powers forced to care about mutant politics.

It would be on the order of Frank Castle finding out he has a useless and non-obvious mutant power... like the mutant power to have a 2% more effective pancreas... and suddenly he has to care about mutant politics because the Sentinels are after him.

Yes, and they're dragging X-23 back into the X-men. Because it's not like her character development was about finding her own path in life or anything.

She was originally created for the show "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends." In it she was billed as a former X-Man. So technically she has her roots in the X-Men. Plus, she was a Hellion so she ran in the mutant crowd for a while.

I personally don't mind the devaluing of death in mainstream comics.

What I do mind is Marvel and DC shilling out those stupid funeral stories as though we're supposed to give a damn.

Exactly. If this is a universe where death is temporary, that's fine. But stop treating each "death" like a death!

That's the only thing that I still like about The Boys; they thoroughly mock the whole superhero death/funeral/resurrection cycle.

(But yes, there's a lot to not like about The Boys; in fact I think I dislike it about as much as mainstream superhero comics; even as it tries to deconstruct tired clichés, it keeps falling on Ennis' own disappointingly repetitive clichés.)

Glad to have Kurt back.

But honestly? Yet ANOTHER book being headlined with Beast, Wolverine and/or Storm?

Ya know, there's more X-Men than those, guys.

That's because the writer wants to play with fun toys out of the 243 members of the X-Men.

At least the Marvel wikia is saying there has been 243 members.

Northstar is slowly becoming B-List like Psylocke. Always on a team, but never the main character. Yay. Better than obscurity, or C-list where he's only background. (Or D-where he only shows up once a decade.)

Northstar and Nightcrawler on the same book!

Art by Ed McGuinness!

...written by Jason Aaron.

Well, I'll check it out, at least.

Because Firestar, Northstar Beast, and Iceman were so close to Nightcrawler that they should be the ones to help bring him back to life?

Why does Jason Aaron need a second X-men book with half the same cast he was already using?

Since death hasn't had value in the Marvel Universe since...I don't know, 1981, that doesn't really bother me that much.

Undoing a poor writing choice? I'm OK with that.

And resurrecting a character CAN work. Ed Brubaker took what I thought was a bad idea (vis a vis Bucky) and made it work in spades. And I didn't even LIKE Bucky. Bringing back Kurt? They never should have killed him in the first place, so....Yes, Please.

Apropos of nothing, that one shot of Kurt with everyone standing around...is that Land? I can't help but notice that somehow most of the women in the perspective shot seem to be falling backwards so as to show their crotches, while the men appear to be standing normally.

Also, which character has a starburst pattern over her vagina? I mean, WTF?

Actually that perspective looks correct to me, except for maybe the woman at top right. The people in toward the center are more foreshortened than the ones at lower right, but the former include Hope and Emma Frost.

Also none of the women are grimacing with fake o-faces, so it can't be Land.

I got into comics a little before the Draco arc an in an attempt to fit in I hated it but looking back I really don't see why I should. Other than the art changing from issue to issue it wasn't really defamatory. And if Azazel is more like Movie Azazel I'm in.

I do usually hate character deaths and revivals but I also hate Kyle and Yost and why Kurt died so I guess I'm making an exception.

Also I like Aaron's WatX. Oops.
