You know... as much as I want Peter back, and as much as I expect him to come back, this storyline is not as bad as it could have been. The potential for greatness exists, and some of the twists taken have been thought-provoking.
Looking back at old stories like this further cements the possibility that, of all Peter's enemies, Otto makes for the most compelling storytelling, since, short of the Osborns, he's had the most complicated and emotionally deep relationship with the hero.
I know it won't last forever, and when it does end, I hope that it somehow leads to a permanently (as permanent as comics are) changed Otto with a new lease on life. Maybe, dare I say it, he can get his brain uploaded to a LMD or AI and become an Otto-bot?
It did strike me that there was a particular reason Spider-Man 2 was a better film than either of the other Raimi movies, and that was Ock, really. Even with the different characterisation, they work best as opposite numbers far more than Venom (way too nineties) and Norman (way too nuts).
While Green Goblin is my favorite, Ock is definitely a better perennial arch-nemesis. With Gobbie I feel like there's a single definitive story to be told with the character and after that keeping them around lessens them, whereas Ock is able to come back again and again without it feeling forced. Ock makes more sense as a staying threat.
