21 year old Bruce Wayne's war on the Red Hood Gang is rough on him as he struggle with his first forays into crime fighting working out all the kinks before he wears the bat suit.

He’s so focused on the goal of fighting crime that he’s not…minding his surroundings. He’s so busy being on the offensive that his personality is becoming that other definition of “offensive.”

Bruce Wayne is content to let the world think Bruce Wayne is dead so he can fight his one-man war alone. But uncle Philip tells Bruce to meet him at the Gotham museum at midnight. Bruce finds his uncle waiting and tries to discuss the Red Hood's acquisition of Wayne Tech weaponry, and suggests they shut the division down until they can find out who the inside man is. Philip can't do that and asks Bruce once again if he'll return to the company, saying they could discuss this all then, but Bruce still refuses which causes uncle Philip to play his hand.

The lights turn on, and there's a surprise welcome home party for Bruce, and the media has been invited. Bruce isn't too happy and immediately tries to leave through a different part of the museum. Edward Nygma eventually finds Bruce, and introduces himself as Philip's advisor, but mentions Philip hardly takes his advice anymore as two enter a little battle of wits.

I think this is actually a good character moment as a way of building trust between them. Bruce is finding his boundaries and Alfred makes it perfectly clear that there's a line he shouldn't cross. It gives Bruce a sense that someone is willing to tell him 'no' and 'you won't manhandle ME, even if you do it to everyone else.'

I also kinda see it as a father/son moment. The son oversteps and that parent showing his authority.

It does work as a good scene in showing a developing parent/child relationship, but it just seems wrong to me in the fact that it's Bruce and Alfred. I mean, Bruce is flat out insulting and manhandling the person who has been his replacement father for years since his parents' deaths. I get that Bruce is still young here and unsure of himself, but I feel like Alfred shouldn't have to set boundaries for Bruce or demand his respect here, because those should have already long ago been given

You say that like stubborn young men don't often do this to their parental figures to assert themselves. It's sadly rather common.

My problem isn't that I think it's an unrealistic depiction of a child-parent relationship, just that I feel it's out of character for Bruce to treat Alfred that way. Even if he is a 'stubborn young man'. And even though Bruce is an ass, I've always seen him as somewhat traditional minded (like he values family, treating parents with respect, etc).
And now I just sound like an old fogey who should just get with the new comic times already
I admit the scene does make me interested in seeing how their relationship will strengthen over the course of the story.

I think that boundaries were long ago given, and that they worked at the time. With Bruce starting a new chapter in his life, and taking on all this new responsibility they just needed to be reestablished. Bruce is only 21 here, and by pretty much every legal definition an adult.

Alfred is just making it clear that despite all the changes the fundamental dynamic between the two of them should remain one of respect.
