This is 21 year old Bruce before he gets into the cape and cowl and still trying to figure out the persona of what his avatar of vengeance should be. It is interesting seeing a young, angry Bruce who argues with Alfred and flips the finger to the Red Hood as he escapes after derailing his plans.
I’m interested in seeing how the dynamic of Bruce and the Red Hood plays out over the course of the next year before Bruce puts on the cowl.

Nigma gives Uncle Philip Kane advice that for him to have complete control of Wayne Enterprises. He must kill his nephew Bruce.

Date: 2013-06-14 12:58 pm (UTC)That rant aside, that kind-of wasn't my point; I mean, even the Joker calls into question the validity of what we've seen in his 'flashbacks' - it could just be some sappy justification in his head for what he's doing to Gordon, after all, and as such, with the Joker calling into question just how valid his flashbacks are, it makes us question if everything's accurate, Red Hood and all. But.. Yeah. I'm less apprehensive about Zero Year than some because I'm bored of them referencing Year One ad nauseum. The same goes for TKJ - although it's notable DC won't dismiss that cash cow any time soon, not when they can pop out an all too sweet 30th Anniversary Edition and still hype it as being relevant in about four years time. I don't think even Moore expects people to be entirely beholden to the stories he told, frankly.
As for Before Watchmen, with the thread that came up here recently, I admit I thought it was entirely dubious to set something up declaring a work terrible when you haven't read it fully, but the poster justified their opinion well enough, and I think the main problem with Before Watchmen is that it apparently doesn't *deconstruct* those tropes, like the original mini did, but instead basically just tells conventional stories with that world's characters. Good thing? Bad thing? I don't know, because I haven't read it yet. At the same time, I've never seen anyone 'excusing' some of the sketchier stuff in Watchmen - although I may have done it on occasion myself; I've never seen anyone justify the Comedian's behaviour and the things he does, for instance - they've attempted to explain his character - and I thought there were some good attempts to explain him in the Before Watchmen thread from recently - but still, I can't honestly pass judgement on BW until I've read what parts I'm going to read.
