Still no words yet. Beware, on Tumbler/4chan someone shoped some in for one page. Got a bunch of people fooled, but it's an MS paint edit.

And as a bonus, the preview sketch book pages in clearer form:

If you look int he background, in thinner line, you can see designs for some of the newer characters. It looks like two suited characters are covered up in one image, and then there's the winged girl and an older person who is a true unknown in this thing.
The presense of possible 3 characters in suits makes it likely only one will make it out of this thing to keep from having too many characters who look similarly. It also suggests that the one in the red suit on this cover:

May be Cammi, with the third appearing on #3's variant (below).
And the Solicits:

The art cetrainly is beautiful, in its horrific way and a lot more 'even' than the foggy images lead us to believe. We now know X-23 and Cammi survive #2. To me, the only way it can go and work is to have the new one, Deathlocket, die as it is her issue. Hazmat, sadly, looks to be grievously wounded during the whole thing (the last page of #1 perhaps). But her death here would be utterly unearned.
A poster on 4chan put it best in response to the Deathlocket vs. Hazmat alternate cover of #1.
And at least they targeted less high profile characters (I loved those kids too, but overall it worked better than where this appears to be going).
Of course, it could also be an unmentioned third party to catch us completely off guard. I think that would be the lesser of the narrative options available. Who knows. I still pray for cop outs and resurrections.
And that Arcade dies at the end of this. To me, he's crossing the moral event horizon as a character and his escape would undermine the story (even more than the logical faults in its set up do already).
But overall, horror overtaking heroics is clearly one of the biggest problems in this proposed series on a conceptual level (and believe me, there are others).

Date: 2012-10-21 04:14 am (UTC)It's a lot more complex than just "Sick Bastard gets a bunch of slaves and gets his rocks off with their death and violence". The larger the scale off the operation, the more problems it encounters.
