The Gatesville Company was a horror anthology comic, published a few years back. It lasted two issues (as far as I know).

The story opens with the tale of The Bronze Bull, after which one Simone Weaver (the red-haired women) is murdered (unintentionally) in her apartment by burglars. She awakens in the river where Mr. Cross (with coat and shades) is waiting for her. Ms. Brand, who is also waiting there, explains that she's died, and she's here to prepared for her journey into heaven or hell.

Simone tells her story:

Mr. Cross has a final job for her:

I found this issue really satisfyingly creepy. I'm not sure why, it's not too spooky of a tale, but her warm, calm smile as she's about to cut into people, it just freaks me out. Kinda sad that this series never lasted, I enjoyed the art and writing in this issue quite a lot.

Completely unrelated request! Anyone have scans of an old Superman Annual, the one that takes place in the far future where there's a team where each individual has one of Superman's powers? It might have been the Elseworlds Annuals, or maybe Legends of the Dead Earth.

BONUS: Here's some (nicely wallpaper-sized) loading screen art from the canceled Flash video game. There's also some nifty storyboards on the same site.

That was great.

I love those cold, calm and logical psychos.

The art's good too.

I was just reading a book you might like then, somewhat in the mode of TELL-TALE HEART where a man who is quite sure he's not mad confides in you. It's Thomas Ligotti's MY WORK IS NOT YET DONE, which I haven't finished, but already it's completely defied my expectations of where it's going twice. Anyway, suggestion.

I've already read that book and loved it!

I hope you'll like too!

Oh, I read that one! I had trouble working out the Rules of the Supernatural (you know, like Our Vampires can do this but they can't do that, as opposed to Those Other Vampires in that canon over there?) for the story, but the narrator's voice is a gem.

"Listen, what with the bad economy and all, hell has had some pretty severe budget cuts lately. So, uh... if you'd just sit there for eternity and torture yourself, that would be great."
