I said this yesterday, and I feel the same way. they never needed each other to define their characters, but DAMN if they weren't better people because of each other.... (this emma seems to be slowly coming back as of the phoenix arc)
I just keep wishing that once Scott comes back, he and Emma find each other again. There was just something so appealing in their love and how they were these two people genuinely always pushing each other to be better.
With Jean and Scott I always felt that while they were a more believable couple, there was also something quite boring about them and their dynamic never really manage to rise above the Phoenix stuff.
The Scott and Emma relationship holds a very special place in my heart because they came together around the time my (now) wife and I first started dating. I'm a divorcee and, in moving on, I discovered just how conservative my friends and family could be if they wanted to. Reading X-books at the time, I started feeling like I was Scott, my ex-wife was Jean and my (now) wife was Emma, given the treatment we were getting. And it all turned around eventually, of course, and all is well now... but still, Emma and Scott were my "it gets better and, if it doesn't, kick their asses" template for quite some time.
I, too, miss them so much. Them and the way Fraction writes couples. His Peter/MJ coda damn near killed me.
Even while I liked that Osborne figured out how to spin the outcome to his favor, I absolutely loved that Norman learned one of the core laws of the MU. Never make Scott Summers your enemy, because it doesn't matter how powerful you are or how many godlike beings you have on your side. He will find a way to take you down in a way that you never saw coming.
