There is a new Iron Man in town and his name is VICTOR VON DOOM. The greatest villain of the Marvel Universe will try something new. Where Tony Stark failed, Doom will succeed. What is Doom's Master Plan?

Bendis and Maleev on a DOOM title? I'm interested. Also this could have been perfect use of 'Superior Iron Man' if they hadn't already done it.

Well this is certainly even more unexpected than the Riri Williams version of Iron Man, and I'm somewhat interested. It does feel like we've seen this sort of anti-hero storyline from Marvel more than once in the past couple of years, what with Spider-Ock and Inverted!Iron Man, but I do love me some Doctor Doom.

That said, even in the post-Secret Wars universe it seems massively out of character for Doctor Doom of all people to take on someone else's name, and while I do absolutely love Doom, Bendis doesn't tend toward writing characters as grandiose as I prefer Doom to be.

I think this will probably be more akin to the Superior Spider-Man than Superior Iron-Man, since the former was about a villain who tried to be a better man than he was whereas the latte is about a good but flawed man who became consumed by said flaws to the point of villainy.

Well, Victor recently had his worldview shattered. This is a Doom who has already done the unthinkable and admitted that Reed Richards is better than him. He's been handed undeniable proof that a world where he is a nearly all-powerful god is not the perfect world he thought it'd be, and knows that Reed can do and is doing a better job of it. He knows that he used that power to take petty revenges on Reed and hid family, while Reed used that power to fix Victor's face and send him home safe and sound. He knows that Doctor Doom is not the superior man he believed himself to be.

So if Victor Von Doom has already had his character defining ego and self-righteousness taken away, why wouldn't he do something new that the old Doctor Doom would never have done?

So International Iron Man is done then.... with only 7 issues and four of them being tie-ins to Civil War II.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

I feel totally confident about another Iron Man series! :D

I don't see what the issue is. Treat them as episodes and seasons of a TV show, there's no real difference. It just strikes me as you being overly cynical about this, especially when your most recent post about DC was another 'take that' to Marvel... Despite DC themselves doing yet another relaunch.

That seasons advertise themselves as such, there is an actual numbering order for you to follow from season to season and they tell you how many episodes the season is going to have.
This are mini-series being advertised as ongoings that do not end because they have been cancelled but because they are mini-series.
If they want them to be like "Seasons", then they should start treating them as such: We should know from the start how many issues the series is going to have and the numbering should be re-worked to reflect this format.

The last time I remember that happening Doom called Captain Marvel a "fat cow" on panel.

Oh boy, dare I ask what issue and comic so I can look into this?

That would be Mighty Avengers issue... er... 7? 8? One of those two, methinks.

Ugh. Bendis's Mighty Avengers.
(Other Mighty Avengers are available, like Al Ewing's fine run, which merely contains Greg Land art in many places.)

I'll have to look into that for potential posting purposes.

As for Mighty Avengers, yeah. Al Ewing's run was great. i never heard of the guy until then. I was looking for tie-ins of Infinity to do a review on and I found that. So good and leaps and bounds better than the actual event.

Well, in fairness to Ewing, Mighty Avengers was his first big moment. Before that all he'd done for Marvel was two tie-in issues for Age of Ultron (an okay one with Black Widow and the really good one with Captain Britain and Fazia Hussein).

Doom keeps showing up in Tony's book and has been since the relaunch. He's a bit more humble than he used to be, but he's been written decently.

Poor Doom being written by Bendis if only Marvel would let him stay in Limbo.

It's a Dr. Doom ongoing (yes!), but it's written by Bendis, not really a fan of his interpretation of Dr. Doom (Mighty, Dark Avengers, Cabal, and Iron Man). I'd rather have Ewing given how he wrote Doom as he did in Loki.

Ewing has really proven himself over the last couple of years as an excellent writer, so let's be honest; is there any title you wouldn't rather have him write?

Date: 2016-07-10 09:21 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] scorntx
... Well... speaking personally, I think Ewing should be kept contained to two or three titles, so that there isn't some sort of burnout, or drop-off in quality.
... unless there was a way to clone him.
Or someone has a dimensional gateway lying about, allowing someone to go grab some Ewings from other realities.

Having been reading The Visions, lately, I'm actually really intrigued by the idea of a Doom series written by Tom King. If he's not burnt out on V names by the time that finishes.
