"I always thought [Annihilus] a great and bizarre villain and wanted to up his game and the stakes he played for to a level that would make him a worthy adversary for the Mad Titan." - Jim Starlin
1.) Somethin about the way Annihilus is drawn in this series reminds me of Zorak from Space Ghost and I can't unsee it
2.) Thanos in the last panel looks like he's got a wee bebbeh vestigial Thanos head growing out of his adult Thanos body, a la when Yondu cloned Shulkie in her Byrne series back in the day
3.) This is like the ultimate bad fanfic - has Starlin Thanos always been like this and I just never noticed it before?

Yup, pretty much.
Starlin's retconned every defeat of Thanos, had him walk over virtually everyone he's ever met while lecturing them about how they suck and he, Thanos, is totally awesome.
I disagree. Up through his "original" death (in the 1977 Marvel Two-In-One annual) he was fine; even in The Death of Captain Marvel, it was a decent appearance (which could be explained away as the dying hallucination of Mar-Vell, anyway). Sometime in the eighties, Starlin apparently ran out of ideas--my guess is that he used them up writing Dreadstar--and that's when the character returned and became this smug jerk.

Err, they already did that, Starlin. If guys like you and Hickman didn't keep just kicking him back down the mountain, things would work just fine.
