Nrama: You mentioned "Frank" earlier, and I'm assuming you mean Frank Miller. Wasn't he originally supposed to be involved in this project?

Adams: He was, and he's gotten kind of busy, and it didn't seem to be all that necessary, although he has demanded that he gets to see the stuff before other people. [laughs] And I'm sure he'll give me some sage advice, just like I used to give him sage advice. But it's not really necessary at this point. I write a very tight script.

It can't just be "Neal Adams wanted to do a Hollow Earth story with Batman." Can it?

I believe that this is the story he's been hinting at writing since at least 1989 -- the one he describes as Batman's happy ending in Mark Cotta Vaz's Tales of the Dark Knight. It also has plot elements derived from his Continuity Comics writings. So whatever else this might be, it's pretty clearly a deeply personal story to the man.

This book is even more insane than the Comics Alliance annotations made it out to be.

How do you "Tolkienize" a bug? Teach it the Black Speech of Mordor? Splice orc DNA into it? Or just write pages upon pages describing it?
