Selina gets ready to beat the crap out of the killer, who she notes seems more terrified of her than anyone has ever been... and while he begs that he can explain, his face... ripples. Selina decides to let him actually say his piece, if only to understand what's going on.
The killer explains that he saw her in the alley the other day, and that he'd only just managed to get away, a remark that confuses Selina, until she realises that he's talking about the cat she saw (the one that left the oddly deep pawprints the cop in the last issue found, the dude can change shape but not mass, see?).
She asks him how he's able to do that, and he says that he doesn't know, just that if he looks at stuff he can turn into it if he wants to. It turns out he doesn't fully remember how he was able to do this to begin with, and he doesn't even remember his name. All he knows is that he was walking through the streets several years ago, and that he might have been in a fire. He saw how people were reacting with disgust to his appearance and were crossing the street to avoid him, but that he remembered deep down that he used to be handsome. So one day he just... changed his face to something that would bring back the feelings he remembered of how people used to see him.
Selina ask him if he can remember anything from the time before, and the guy says he can just remember flashes. He remembers he was in the army, and he was badly hurt...

The killer attempts to go all Tetsuo on Selina, and she only just manages to survive by tazing and decapitating him with a broken bit of window that was smashed in their fight. With the head separated from the body, the rest dissolves into mush, she locks it in a freezer and goes to get someone more qualified to deal with this kind of crap.

Leslie asks Selina why she bothered to reach out to the man, even though he killed all of those women. Selina replies that Leslie probably would have done the same thing, after all, he wasn't completely responsible for his actions. Leslie asks how does Selina feel, to help people and not just take like she's used to. Selina says she's not sure... Good, but strange.
What do you mean, asks Leslie. Selina says that it's all kind of overwhelming, and that she's worried that she might fail. The that's a feeling that she's just plain not used to having, being confidence personified and all. Leslie says not to worry, and that she thinks Selina will be just fine.
As the story draws to a close, Selina concedes that Leslie might be right. For a long time, all her life focused on was on pain, both her own and her family's. And that pain defined who she was, and just lead to more along the line, until nothing was left of her beyond that.
But today she isn't thinking about the crooked cops and politicians. She's not thinking of the wife-beaters, the rapists, the mobsters... she'll get to them all eventually. But right now all she can think about is how good it will feel when the sun goes down...
And you can't argue with happiness, can you?
