'The phrase "faith in a higher power" is like nails on a blackboard to me, partly because my life and my interests are defined by science and hard knowledge, and partly (I'm sure) because as a kid growing up in the Bible Belt, I had a lot of first-hand experience with seeing how often "faith in a higher power" becomes an excuse to not take responsibility for your own decisions. (That's a generalization, and I know that, but we're talking about the programming I received as a kid, which is hard to shake.)'

'Or, Graeme, to put it all way more succinctly than that—on a personal level, I have little if any use for faith.'
-- Mark Waid

Bruce Banner and his science team created a portal to Jotunheim, realm of the Frost Giants, and then crossed it, only to discover that it also accidentally transported them through time. They're not in the Jotunheim of the present day but of the past.

Issue 8:

Over time, Patricia can't help but be taken in by the wonder of all that she's seeing...

That's a pretty touching story, the sentiments expressed remind me of a friend of mine.

I still can't get over the fact that Banner looks like an adult Harry Osborn here.

Banner, probably because he's considered a secondary character to his alter-ego, has never really had a consistent model beyond "white guy with brown hair". Possibly why they could get away with casting two such physically different actors as Ed Norton and Mark Ruffalo in the movies.

I was disappointed that Hulk wasn't actually lifting the hammer, I always like it when Hulk has hidden depths.

Sadly, Waid's run so far seems to mostly be using Hulk as a dumb brute, and after stuff like Planet Hulk and Stay Angry establishing my preferred version of an intelligent Hulk, that's kinda disappointing. Banner does keep mentioning that his emotional state affects what kind of Hulk he turns into, but so far it's just meant Hulk switches from mindless to simple but observant.

So they'll eventually cure Patricia's Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease, just like Banner was cured of Lou Gehrig's disease?

Possibly even thee same way, since Banner's cure involved Reed Richards harvesting genetic material from Brian Banner's corpse, and it looks like Patty's dad is alive and harvest-able.

Oh so much beautiful awesome, extra so for someone who was a teen during Simonson's original run on Thor. Sigh.
