It’s the early days when Batman and Superman were at the start of their careers and had never met (it’s still not clear how this story will jive with what we saw in Justice League #1). Clark is in Gotham to cover a story and he must confront Bruce Wayne to get the answers he needs. The inquiry alerts Bruce to a possible conspiracy which will lead him back to Metropolis.

A security system that starts up a bunch of robots that burst from the floor, someone has been killing Wayne employees in Metropolis and it might have been Catwoman, who is possessed by a ghost/demon/thing.

I did lol that Batman throwing down a refrigerator and stove down on Superman down below.

Superman and Batman gets transported to earth 2 afterwards.

A confuse Superman meet earth 2 Batman in smallville and thinks it's the same one he was fighting moments ago. This Batman have a kryptonite shield that weakens Superman. Earth 2 Batman mentions that Superman give the kryptonite to him as a safeguard protection in case Superman ever goes bad. Earth 2 Batman then ask why Superman dressing and acting so differently.

Superman mention since he got no power at the moment that he is free to go all out to beat the crap out of earth 2 Batman. He proceed to do so and about to finish the final blow to knock him out when somebody unexpected shows up.

32 pages.

This actually looks... interesting. Little bit confused about how this story fits into the new continuity at all. I admittedly am not up to date with the new DC stuff though
Is there a reason why Clark thinks Batman is a murderer? I mean Supes seems a little bloodthirsty here :-(

Superman's douchebro-looking jeans and t-shirt outfit though. Why DC, whyyyy

He's a dude from the midwest. Frankly, I'm curious how he ever ended up with the *cape*.

Never thought about it that way before! But still
Isn't the cape a Kryptonian thing?
Ugh, I swear t-shirt + cape combo makes Superman look like a kid playing dress-up or something.

The cape is the baby blanket he was rocketed to Earth in, so yes it's very literally childish.

Perhaps he just liked stories of knights and pirates, tales of old when capes were a common thing to wear and looked cool.... (Same reason we see little Clark in the "Man of Steel" trailer posing with his hands on his hips, just like Superman would...

I maintain that little Clark was pretending to be the Third Doctor.

Or, possibly, Liberace. I get those two confused.

Since when are jeans and a t-shirt "doucehbro"?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that jeans and a t-shirt are 'douchebro'. Just that Superman wearing them as part of his costume makes him kind of douchebro looking. ...I just personally really dislike this costume. I apologize, I realize I'm kind of coming across as unnecessarily harsh about it

I don't think I even know what "douchebro" means or implies, to be honest.

I see what you mean by the douchebro. Though I give superman a pass here, since he had little means of building his own costume.

When *Kon-El* does it however... wow, total douchebro look.

I actually like it, it certainly only works for an early in his career Superman, but I think it fits well with the man of the people angle that Morrison was going for in Action Comics. Plus it strikes as I guess more "sincere" than his current updated costume.

That said it does look a little fray boy-ish here instead of merely casual. I think it's because of the way the t-shirt is drawn, it looks really tight, like Superman is trying to show off.

I think it only looks frat-boyish when he's around other heroes -- I mean, Jeans, T-shirt + a cape. It looks a little odd around actually costumed heroes, maybe even a little half-assed, or 'visually arrogant'.

(When I say 'visually arrogant', I mean like the kind of people who go to a halloween party where everyone's made an effort but they've just gone for the simplest, most basic attempt in an act of 'defiance'. Awkward haha)

"Is there a reason why Clark thinks Batman is a murderer? I mean Supes seems a little bloodthirsty here :-("

Superman comes in, and he sees a big guy dressed in a scary costume, a bunch of killer robots, and a father and child scared out of their wits. I think it's fair to say that Supes made an assumption.

I don't know if bloodthirsty's quite the right word, but it fits with how Morrison wrote him during this period in Action. This was from a time when he thought he could change the world just by throwing his weight around and hurting the people who bully and abuse others.

Jae Lee's a brilliant artist, but I don't think he quite fits this story, and I don't think he really has the storytelling skills to to sequential art.

I am getting really sick of this horribly forced "Fathers are the most important" thing that's being pushed everywhere. In particular here, I was hoping that for once we'd get a little insight on Ma Kent and Martha Wayne in Nu52 workings...but, nope, it's all "Pa taught me this" and "My father was a doctor", blah de blah de blah.

Since when did JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof become writing trendsetters?

To be fair, Snyder and Tyrion did make Martha a big player in Gotham politics during his Fall of the House of Wayne back-up.

Totally agree. Jae Lee's art strikes me as suited to dark, twisted stuff, not a straightforward fun adventure story. It's not bad, but it definitely feels like a mismatch.

I like the idea of Bats and Supes meeting and maybe eventually getting guidance from their older, Earth 2 selves, that could be interesting. Plus it would make those characters seem less like sacrificial lions in the pages of Earth 2.

Clark seems awfully punch happy here though, he doesn't even seem to question why Batman looks different or realize that he's not on his own Earth. I know it's par for the course, but I really feel like Superman of all people should be willing to talk before going straight to the punching, even if he is inexperienced.

And now that I think about the Earth 2 connection, I kinda wish this were a Trinity book. It'd be funny to see Earth 2 Supes and Wondy dismiss a romantic relationship as silly.

You got to remember that young Clark is inspired by early Golden-Age Superman, who was always punch first ask questions later.

Well, we seem to have some sort of villainous entity that takes control of people's minds and when it let's go, they don't remember what happened; and when Pak was asked that question, he replied with a "wait and see."

My guess is that due to the nature of the villain, they won't remember what happened in this story until a modern-day arc where the entity comes back or something.
