Very nice! Out of the mouth of my favorite X-person too :D
How is this series on a whole, I've been thinking of adding it to my file in place of some I dropped, since it's got Kitty but on the other hand I haven't been a fan of some of Bendis' character directions or retcons.
This series is very.... it's not very typical of superhero story in that so far it's been very focussed on characters reacting to one another and very much not on a plot revolving around fighting supervillains. Very chatty, very Bendis - but well written as such. It uses the set up of the old X-Men pretty cleverly to question the evolutions in modern comics and comics characters and the history of the X-Men and at the same time make it pretty accessible to newcomers. There are times when the characterisation are a bit shacky, but overall it pulls through. I think it's been very, very good.
I got the first five issues but had to drop it because of financial reasons, but the bits and pieces I've seen its relatively decent if flawed. I'm ordring the second trade now though to catch up a bit.
Man, this is going to make things awkward around the Marvel water cooler, assuming Remender is reading other people's books. Go Kitty, though. Good speech. Kudos for not using any racial epithets to make her point.
Very off topic, but did teen!Jean get a haircut? It looks like she's aping her daughter's style.
Well look at this. An adult conversation about what it means to be a minority in a spandex comic book series. One that actually treats the different views on the subject with respect instead of just creating cartoonish straw men.
I have issue with the use of real life slurs in that eulogy, although otherwise it was very good.
I thought about posting it to compare it to the not quite recent anymore issue in Generation Hope that tried to address the same theme, but honestly I didn't have the heart to.
Having grown up on Alan Davis' Shadowcat, I find it mildly hilarious to imagine the computer geek with curly brown hair, a big nose and a star of David pendant saying, "Now you might not realize this, but I'm Jewish..."
I think in addition to the intangibility Kitty has the mutant power of immunity to event-driven poor characterization. I can't recall an instance of her being written badly in recent years, and she's just about the only Marvel character I can say that about.
Well on one hand I applaud Kitty for this, she is really over looking what Alex was trying to push. Which was people should over the fact that they are mutant in the same way that people view religion, culture or other separation factors that cause prejudiced. He isn't trying to completely erase it, just the stigmatism behind it.
Then his speech was very badly written. Because like a lot of people said, that was definetly not what was interpreted and that's why Kitty's words have been so well received.
Lack of separation is different from homogenisation and the speech seemed to be pushing the latter and not the former. Coming from a person on a top position of privilege which even soured the events more.
