Fancomics: Phoenix-Aid, Staberine, and Avengers Arena Reactions

There're some spoilers in here for Avengers Arena.

And Age of Ultron, I guess.




I was rereading one of my old Excalibur trades and I came across this panel:

I’m just sayin’, man likes to stab. He’s got a problem. A problem with stabbing. The one problem he can't stab his way out of.

I keep forgetting that Age of Ultron is a thing that is happening. I also forgot what costumes Hank Pym and Sue Storm were wearing. Ah, well.



Nico's got a lot of loved ones who probably didn't head upwards after they died.

I'd say I'm surprised that they actually killed her, but I really think that every character there is D-list enough to be on the chopping block. Not that that'll stop anyone from reviving them if they want to use them enough. Man, this event has me cynical on comic book death.

...more than usual, any way.




Don’t normally do two of these, but I wanted to address the fact that she was killed by Chase. Indirectly, yeah, but still.

Also, I know there were plans to bring Gert back to life, but I don't know how far that went. Chase saw that girl who looked like her once, but I don't know if they ever confirmed that that was her.

hehe i love that even in death Gert is snarky :D

that said, i think in my head, Nico's death proves (if it wasn't obvious before) that this is a fake out. there is definately something more to this than just a teen free for all.

also, heh i wonder if wolverine getting stabbed by himself is a commentary of wolverine's solition being "STAB EVERYTHING"

have you ever posted your stuff to reddit? i mean, this seems like the perfect thing they would grab onto :D

Don't think it's fair to say she was killed by Chase, he was just trapped as, more or less, a passenger in the weapon that did kill her.

Yeah, I still stand beside my theory that this is a virtual reality trap, like Better Than Life in Red Dwarf. It would explain why Arcade's avatar in game looks like a movie star when the actual Arcade was an odd-looking freak and also his godlike powers, not to mention the limits of the in-game map as exhibited in the first issue when the girl with the wings flies into the invisible border.
And then there's the gamer-tag health bar things as well.
Whether anyone actually dies in the game or is just kicked off the server and back to the pod or whatever their interface-restraint is is something I imagine the writer can pick and choose from.

That's been my take on it from the start. If nothing else, I figure Nico will be back the moment the Runaways movie gets out of development hell.

Honestly, if it turns out that this is a version of the Marvel Superhero game that Alex Wilder was playing back in volume one of the Runaways and we're watching some dedicated role players playing it, I will take back half of the bad things I've said about this.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I just want to say your Gert dialogue is spot on. Mostof your Casstoon characters sound like parodies, for the most part, but Gert just sounds like Gert.

From the looks of things (bare in mind I haven't actually been reading Arena, just following posts about it) a little thing like The Staff of One being unable to do resurrection spells won't matter as Arena doesn't follow continuity well. So it's a possibility. Really what I think will happen is Marvel will just silently declare this "non-canon" and an alternate universe, and let these kids be used again. (Or at least that's what I hope).
