Meanwhile, at the other DC titles that is keeping the old DC story line going (besides the Bat titles)... the Guardians continue to wring their hands and plot no good for the universe.

Hal Jordan and Sinestro have managed to escape the Indigo Tribe, and are now looking for the also escaped Black Hand, who has become a Black Lantern again. The duo arrive at Earth, with the Book of the Black in tow, to the Hand family compound/mortuary. where Black Hand has begun to bring back zombies.

Meanwhile, the Guardians tip their hand. Their assault on the Indigo homeworld begins.

and back the the adventures of Hal and Sinestro.
They fight zombies, they knock out Black Hand, they use the last of their charge and detonate Sinestro's yellow power battery. The explosions obliterates the zombies. But Black Hand survives.

Which leads to this...

Duh-duh-DUUUUHN!!!!

I dunno, considering how bad the Guardians have been of late, I think joining the Black Lanterns would be a lateral move at worst.

That Guardian's face in the second last panel on the second page may be among the most punchable things that I have ever seen.
I'm kind of torn with this direction, I think it's a fairly sensible story to tell in that it makes sorta sense, but I just can't stand how it's being dragged out so long. It's been 12 issues of the Guardian's twirling their mustaches and giggling talking about all the eeeeevil they're going to do, but not actually really doing anything.
And also, totally random thought, but from the front Sinestro's Green Lantern uniform looks a whole lot like the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon's version of Spidey's costume, all that's missing is the mask and gloves and it could be Green Lantern Spider-Man.

... define greatness.. Sinestro was the "greatest" Green Lantern of his time... and help ruin the corps' reputation and honor... you think Hal's "greatness" may do the same? Afterall... he was design to be the leader of the Blue Lanterns... and look where that's going... the Blue always seem to make promises....

Kyle was the greatest, and he rekindled the guardians (back when they weren't evil), restarted the corps, dealt with multiple cosmic threats, and never went evil.

It depends on who they call the 'greatest' and when. Sinestro probably believed his own hype after a while, and probably WAS the greatest Green Lantern despite the fact he was utterly abusing the authority and the power of the role.

After all, you tell me how different Sinestro's enforced rule over Korugar is to having the Guardians declare themselves the ultimate authority in the galaxy? The guy's perfect for those little blue fuckers.

And yet, during the worst of the fanwars, the term that irked me most as a GL fan was "the One True Green Lantern."

At which point I dropped all Kyle support and said, "Oh, is that what we're talking about? Because the One True GL is ALAN SCOTT."

Man took on the Axis. He don't need no Corps.

But really, it weakens the fun of the space opera elements to try and bash into the narrative "but this guy is SERIOZLY THE GREATEST EVAH, GUYS. He's like destined to be TEH CHOSEN UNE." I enjoy hearing about all the other Lanterns fighting on their own or together in the fog of war, but always looking to one Earthling to pull their butts out of the fire at the last chapter is a very tired plot.

Each Lantern as One Of Many, makes GLs a little more interesting than most of their other superhero and cosmic adventurer brethren (though of course, Chosen Ones were what the Lensmen were all about back in the day;)

The progression from HUGE DICKS to HUGE, DICKISH VILLAINS has been going on since Johns started.
They acted like villains so often I guess it was only logical to make them such. Not sure if I like it, though.

I've loved the Green Lantern Corps for ages, because a hero whose superpowers are willpower and imagination is awesome (another reason I like Spider-Man so much and why Kyle is my favorite) and because space cops are awesome, and I really liked the Emotional Spectrum in its beginnings, but now it seems that's all a Green Lantern story can be anymore and that strikes me as a terrible limitation.
They have the entire vastness of space in all its wonder and terror to deal with and yet the rogue's gallery and plot are more limited than the slips of paper we use to determine the color of our carpet.

I actually like both Hal and Kyle, and John, and Guy. And I actually like Johns run on the title.

Though I will admit that maybe Johns should let Hal get a few breathers, considering its been event arc after event arc for the most part.

I like his stuff too, but he should take some pointers from the 90s incarnation of the book, just before Kyle was introduced. They used to rotate the main Lanterns amongst Earth's GLs every story arc.
(which gave us the original "Mosaic" featuring John Stewart and the awesome "Guy and his dog" arc!)
