Newsarama have a preview for SA #26

Beast has a nightmare about Jean's original Dark Phoenix rampage, and being a nightmare it ends badly... They mention (annoyingly) that the original aim of the Phoenix was to burn things on a cosmic scale... so much for the "Avatar of Life", but I think we know that ship has sailed thanks to this ruddy crossover.

At least Brian is defending Rachel's time as the Phoenix. Beast defending Jean is in character, but given that she DID go Dark Phoenix and Rachel never did, I'm not sure that his POV has much going for it.

And then in another WTF moment.... Thor walks in... or rather reels, along with Valkyrie.

Now Thor doing a bit of carousing I can sort of see, and I know Norse legend tends towards the fatalistic, but even so... this seems most unlike him. He's faced down Ragnarok, he'd be girding his lois, not drowning his sorrows.

Though I like Brian acknowledging that him getting drunk is never a good idea.

Interesting art style here, a pleasant change from the norm.

So, wait...

...is Beast no longer the blue lion-ish beast anymore? I know his look is inconsistent between artists, but I've seen his human-ish features pop up more frequently as of late.

That said, I really do like the art here. It is detailed, and Thor looks rather Nordic. Which is nice.

Thor's look here reminds me of this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIZ-OloTwmM
It irks me.

I REALLY loved Jean when Morrison was writing her, and I liked her in the recent X-Men: Season One OGN.

I'm indifferent to the Jean Question. I always rather liked the character and wouldn't mind having her back (if for no other reason than I think it's going to happen sooner or later, no matter what else happens) but she's not a character my personal fandom can't live without. Jean alive or Jean dead, either works for me.

Rachel as the Phoenix host, however, gets a wholehearted "Yes,please!" from me. I officially second the motion.

I only wish that counted for anything.

I see it as him sssing this as not that big of a deal. Like you said, he's faced Ragnarok. He fought his creepy snake uncle. He died both times. Why would this be such a big deal?

To me it feels all wrong because he's getting in Brian's face about it. One thing that's been pretty consistent about Thor is that he's a stout friend and fellow warrior -- he's all about being good to his teammates, and his teammates want to follow him. Thor should be treating Brian and Hank the way he would treat Hogun the Grim and Fandral the Dashing. "Very well, noble Captain, we must each ready ourselves in our own way -- I am without worry, for when battle comes I know your heart is true! Fear not, Beast, I know your wit and brilliance from long experience!" That kind of thing.

Hm, you have a point. Still, maybe he would just like Brian and Hank to relax just a bit when they have the chance. Has he had much interaction with either of them? I know Thor and Beast were Avengers together for at least a little while.

Thor strikes me as the kind of guy who, even if he met somebody for five minutes, ten years later he would hear their name and say, "Oh yeah, I know that guy. Did some work with him. Decent to the core." And he'd be right.

Alan Davis didn't but a few others have including Chris Claremont. They even did a flashback issue in Excalibur where Spider-Man and Brian were roomies and Peter eventually kicked him out for alcoholism.

I guess it depends on the writer, Like how Beast's look flip-flops too.

Marvel Team up #65. Back when comics were only 35 cents!

Then in Excalibure, they did a flashback to Brian's semester at ESU where Pete confronts him about his alcoholism and how Brian nearly had to drop out of college because of it,

So, they're ignoring that giant containment egg Beast built in Endsong? Man, nothing that happened in that series mattered at all, did it?

If it wasn't done by a writer the current overlords cared for, it ain't shit for gravy (a saying I have just pulled from the collective unconscious and like the look of). I'm gonna go off wildly on a tangent (wee!) and say how keeping a coalesced, if not clear, continuity and image of comic characters in my head is akin to a meditation practice.

But it's just sad when one of the big two just throws out older stories rather than utilizing them and rewarding people who follow along. Oh well.

"If it wasn't done by a writer the current overlords cared for, it ain't shit for gravy"

Looking it up, it was written by Greg Pak--and while he isn't an Architect, he was basically in charge of the Hulk-verse for a while there.

I think it's less that and more that this event is supposed to bring in those mystical new readers, and explicitly mentioning too much of the past will make it very unfriendly to them.

The whole Kid Omega Phoenix host thing did get a mention in Wolverine and the X-Men, and Quentin wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for Endsong.

On the other hand, no one ever seems to mention how the Stepford Cuckoos are Emma Frost clones. They should start a support group with X-23 and Genesis.

I didn't know that, and, frankly, that sounds like a terrible idea. Why cant the Cuckoos just be telepathic girls that Emma saw as perfect students to take personally under her wing?

I think it was hinted ever since Morrison introduced them, so I don't think it was out of the blue. Plus, I don't believe they were outright clones. If I recall, they only used Emma's eggs, so they would be more akin to daughters. Don't know if that makes it any better.
