Newsarama have a preview for SA #26
Beast has a nightmare about Jean's original Dark Phoenix rampage, and being a nightmare it ends badly... They mention (annoyingly) that the original aim of the Phoenix was to burn things on a cosmic scale... so much for the "Avatar of Life", but I think we know that ship has sailed thanks to this ruddy crossover.

At least Brian is defending Rachel's time as the Phoenix. Beast defending Jean is in character, but given that she DID go Dark Phoenix and Rachel never did, I'm not sure that his POV has much going for it.
And then in another WTF moment.... Thor walks in... or rather reels, along with Valkyrie.

Now Thor doing a bit of carousing I can sort of see, and I know Norse legend tends towards the fatalistic, but even so... this seems most unlike him. He's faced down Ragnarok, he'd be girding his lois, not drowning his sorrows.
Though I like Brian acknowledging that him getting drunk is never a good idea.
Interesting art style here, a pleasant change from the norm.

Date: 2012-04-22 06:01 pm (UTC)...is Beast no longer the blue lion-ish beast anymore? I know his look is inconsistent between artists, but I've seen his human-ish features pop up more frequently as of late.
That said, I really do like the art here. It is detailed, and Thor looks rather Nordic. Which is nice.

Date: 2012-04-22 07:02 pm (UTC)Her primary human relationship (Scott) was already lost to her (through both his affair with Emma, and her own growing powers making her more distant), I think about the only thing left to do was have her leave Earth for... well, wherever.

Date: 2012-04-27 10:18 am (UTC)Rachel as the Phoenix host, however, gets a wholehearted "Yes,please!" from me. I officially second the motion.
I only wish that counted for anything.

Date: 2012-04-22 09:12 pm (UTC)Alan Davis is quite firm that he never wrote Brian as an alcoholic. Brian has some issues with alcohol use when he's depressed (Such as his extended bender when Betsy died) and he prefers not to drink alcohol if he has a choice because, as he says here, he's an arsehole when he does, but I don't think that's quite the same as alcoholism.

Date: 2012-04-22 10:28 pm (UTC)I guess it depends on the writer, Like how Beast's look flip-flops too.

Date: 2012-04-24 05:18 pm (UTC)Looking it up, it was written by Greg Pak--and while he isn't an Architect, he was basically in charge of the Hulk-verse for a while there.
I think it's less that and more that this event is supposed to bring in those mystical new readers, and explicitly mentioning too much of the past will make it very unfriendly to them.
