ALL-STAR WESTERN #7

Art by MORITAT, PATRICK SCHERBERGER and DAN GREEN
Cover by LADRONN
On sale MARCH 28 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T+
Jonah Hex tracks the kidnapper Thurston Moody to New Orleans in pursuit of his bounty. But he and Amadeus Arkham find New Orleans under attack by the August 7, a group of anti-immigrant, steampunk terrorists. Only the renowned Nighthawk and Cinnamon stand between the terrorists and the immigrant workforce of this city. Hex consents to put the bounty aside (for the moment) to help his friends and finds himself in a battle to the death! Plus: Some of the best love stories are tempered with revenge, especially in the case of Nighthawk and Cinnamon.
Interesting character design. I shall name her... Knifeboot!
HAWK AND DOVE #7

Written by ROB LIEFELD
Art and cover by ROB LIEFELD
On sale MARCH 7 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
While dealing with their complicated relationship, Hank and Dawn face an attack from a mysterious hunter who reveals a larger conspiracy involving the heroic duo! Legendary creator Rob Liefeld continues his solo run on HAWK AND DOVE as writer and artist with this explosive issue!
PffffHHAHAHAHAHAHA! Look at him! If Deadpool is meant to be Liefeld's version of Deathstroke, what exactly is THIS guy meant to be?
And in other news, it seems that the Joker won Character of the Year at the Spike TV Video Game Awards this year (this is despite their apparent decision to seat Mark Hammill and Tara Strong at the very back of the hall, effectively in the bleachers, but eh, what are ya gonna do?).
Anyway, the Joker accepted the award in a prerended acceptance speech, where he revealled a script for "Arkham World" that he happened to be holding at the time, before hiding it against because of "Spoilers". Whether it was just a joke or the possible extention of the storyline within the game, we'll have to see, as it'll probably be another two or so years before a sequel to Arkham City hits the shelves.

Date: 2011-12-12 07:59 pm (UTC)As for Marvel--hey, Johns wrote him and the Batson kids pretty damn well as "Captain Thunder" over at Flashpoint. Also, he's actually made his take on Hal entertaining for the first time since...EVER. I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of a doubt.

Date: 2011-12-12 08:03 pm (UTC)I mean, he does show Billy in a positive light for the most part... but he I got the impression he'd rather just use Black Adam and consign everyone else to a little niche.

Date: 2011-12-12 08:02 pm (UTC)...why? His story worked. I mean, Jeff Smith's Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil was awesome.
I'm going to expect the worst in hopes that I will be proven totally wrong.

Date: 2011-12-12 08:20 pm (UTC)I guess that it just amused me for a number of reasons, ranging from it being about superheroics during WW2 to the fact that the city that the Marvels operate in (as well as the Marvels themselves to an extent) seemed to represent an idealised version of the 1950s, while they bumped into Jack Knight who is also mentally of that time period, though more of the Beatnik Generation thing than the eggcream and white picket fences thing that Fawcett City has going on.

Date: 2011-12-12 08:12 pm (UTC)That's not a criticism, I have opinions of what could be made better about a lot of comics... but he has a thing of remaking entire character blocks in his image (Green Lantern etc.), so him deciding to remake the Shazam characters from the ground up isn't that suprising.

Date: 2011-12-12 08:47 pm (UTC)Moving on, why hasn't anyone posted the solicit to Birds of Prey? I found the solicit for it very intriguing:
"Go ahead. Skip this issue. You’ll only be missing 20 pages of insane, wall-to-wall action as the Birds of Prey finally catch and unmask the elusive mind-controlling villain known as “Choke” – only to discover that he’s turned one of their own against them! You’ll also be missing Black Canary vs. Ivy! Batgirl vs. Starling! Katana versus…well, that would be spoiling things, wouldn’t it? BIRDS OF PREY #7: The comic for people who think there’s not enough fighting in comics."
I'm betting my money the person Katana's going to be fighting is Huntress. Perfect match right there between two people who have a history of waging a personal war against the yakuza and mafia respectively!
