Daredevil #512 and Shadowland: After the Fall
For what's worth, #512 predates After the Fall publication-wise, but chronologically they both happen during the same period of time. I think #512 works better after, so I'm posting it second. Four pages from each issue.
After the Fall is written by Antony Johnson and illustrated by Roberto La Torre and Marco Checchetto. (My selection is from Marco) It's basically narrated by Ben Urich who, along with everyone else, is looking for Matt who disappeared after the events of Shadowland. He finds a tape left for him by Murdock.

Urich tells Elektra that people deserve to know the truth, but she says that Matt should be able to heal and that the people are better off not knowing what happened.
Later, Urich meets up with Foggy. The two discuss Matt (Urich doesn't mention the tape) and the current state of Hell's Kitchen is brought up. Urich thinks that it's improved.

Urich thinks to himself that perhaps everyone could learn from Foggy's optimism, and that as the sun rises on Hell's Kitchen, "maybe we should all learn to live without fear".
In Daredevil #512 (by Andy Diggle and Antony Johnston, with art from Checchetto.
The Kingpin berates the Hand, telling them that thanks to their alliance with Daredevil, they now lie broken and without leadership...

Meanwhile, there are sightings of Daredevil throughout the city. Luke Cage and Iron Fist search for him, but it turns out to be someone else...

Finally, at the end of the issue...

I'm surprised they didn't use Moon Knight.

I heard that Bendis is "reimagining" his character next year in a new series... mixed feelings about that!

"Sorry."
"Wha - Johnny APPLESEED?"
"Yup. If you ever manage to figure out exactly what the hell is going on, I'm on Twitter..."

Each time he tried to avoid killing them but it was the only way. He felt bad about it but never to the point that he would want to quit being a superhero.

And in this case, it was deliberate murder. He had dislocated Bullseye's arms and had immobilized him. It's different from than being forced to do something.

IIRC while he did push Typhoid Mary out the Window accidentally that didn't kill her.
It was in issue 5 of the mini where he deflected a bullet back into this mobsters head because he wouldn't let this little girl go.

The helicopter pilot? IIRC, that pilot was gunning down innocent people while backing up Nuke. Also, I THINK that pilot was revealed as alive in DAREDEVIL #300.

Matt: Oh noes, I've killed the mass murderer who is going to come back from the dead someday anyways because he's a major character! I must angst forever now. *cries*
Really Matt, it's not like you blew up an orphanage and drowned a bunch of kittens or whatever. Get over it.

The DCAU example was Batman being motivated so that the guy trying to get revenge for his son's death didn't destroy what was left of his life, and dishonour the memory of son, by becoming a murderer.

Like manrain said, he was a swashbuckler back before Miller came onto the book and started noir-ing the shit out of it. The last big "swashbuckle" thing was Daredevil: Yellow, by Loeb/Sale, and even that has a touch it, because the whole premise is Matt writing about Karen Page after she died, with him flashing back to the past.
Well, it's not out of the blue
DeMatteis wrote a story where Matt decides to commit suicide by jumping to his death. He changes his mind on the way down..but he still made that decision.
Kevin Smith wrote a story where Matt puts a loaded gun to his head. Only a memory of Karen stops him
In the end of Shadowland, Matt spiritually/psychically/whatever stabs himself. Foggy doing CPR and Iron Fist seemed convinced it had physical results.
On the other hand, he has this wierd metaphoric power to come back to life, Jesus-style, just like he did here. It's never been pushed to the point of Wolverine type power, always very subtle and maybe didn't happen, but Miller did give Stick and his evil opposites, the Hand, the ability to resurrect people.

And Black Panther's now watching Hell's Kitchen. Weird choice.

God, I hated that place.

It worked with Superman, it'll work with him. Better than the Shadowland arc, it any rate.

Hal Jordan gets to watch the events of "Emerald Twilight" and says the only thing he sees as plausible is him killing Sinestro. He said he could see himself doing it under the "right stress."

Really liked Panther's protrayal here. He looks great and he's not acting like a 'king' who's knows better than everybody, his way or the highway, etc. I'd like to see a flashback, though, where T'Challa and Matt talk before this happens. We haven't seen them together in AGES. Matt needs to apologize for missing the wedding, fer instance.
Also, the images of Panther, the police officer Kurtz, and his angry black boss remind me of Batman: War Games. Panther's got the Batman vibe, and Kurtz with his 'connection' to the hero (tho he didn't show up before Shadowland) and his inner conflict between his sympathy for the hero and his duty remind me of James Gordon, and the angry boss who wants the vigilante to pay reminds of Whats-his-name who was angry at Batman in that event.
Luke was a major jerk though. Why is he always this way in Daredevil? (Wierd to remember when Kurtz is talking to him that Luke is a prison warden now.) Danny--so sweet! ::sniff::
Matt wanting Foggy to think he was dead because it would be kinder...&^$$##!!
Not my favorite portrayal of Becky. :( She looks hot, though.
Glad Tarantula is alive! Sad White Tiger isn't back. :(
I appreciate the end of the book practically mirrored Nocenti's run, when she had Matt wander the world, down to the absorption with the details of his senses to block out inner turmoil. Nice to see some cops still appreciate DD and miss him. But...I don't see the book in a good place. My favorite stories are MATT. With the glasses and his coolness and quirky sense of humor, who's considered one of the most respected superheroes. I don't care for this persecuted madman who makes Foggy feel bad theme.

Perhaps he's walking to LA to TAKE BACK THE TONIGHT SHOW.
