scans_dailyWhuzzat? Not enough !@#$ hitting the fan in your morning coffee? Haven't spit out enough of your afternoon lunch yet? In that case, I bring you the penultimate issue of the War of Frogs saga. Spoilers behind the cut for #4.
Where last we left off in #3, The Black Flame was enlightening Abe Sapien as to his true nature and possible destiny as the rule of the new race of "men" that will survive once the Lovecraftian gods of the Hellboy universe descend on Earth. Abe threatens one of the eggs sacs and this is how the Black Flame responds, still cool and inviting to Abe.
Is it me or does Abe look like a hybrid between the Frogs and the unground minions?
Anyways... Abe is not the only member of the original team swept away from their right mind. Liz continues her own "walk about" of a possible future.
Uh oh....
And one final vision. Up in the sky, in the towering black void where once were stars over the grey haze of the ruined earth.....
Thats Hellboy, in full Beast of Apocalypse mode, and Hecate, in fulfillment of the prophecies.

We get a glimpse of the new person who is helping the BPRD against such forces, as Liz unleashes her full might once more.
The great Ogrdu Hem in her visions are destroyed, and the fires clean through the caverns. The old mystic shows up just as Abe is about to succumb to the call of the glowing newborn Ogrdu Hem, and they disappear before the rush of flame. All is charred black now.
Next time, #5 and the conclusion of King of Fear.

Date: 2010-05-19 01:49 pm (UTC)I have not normally followed HB, but I am buying this arc because of curiousity generated from posts here (DarkHorse comics, please send the royalty checks to SD2.0, thanks). I have #5 at home but haven't read it yet.
HB is really different than the Marvel/DC comics I've been reading. The story feels deeper, I guess is the best way to put it. Perhaps it's because it doesn't rely on Universe Changing Crossovers yearly to generate interest.
