The robbers that were robbing the bank were part of intergang. They had kryptonite weapons and Superman had gotten shot by a kryptonite bullet. Then beat him with a kryptonite brass knuckles afterward. One of the robbers was going to shoot superman in the head with another kryptonite bullet to finish him off.

That when Superman decided to go golden mode of on the robbers.
