Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #16

After reading Thunderbolts for so long, it always feels weird to see the Beetle as a villain. Especially in his old goofy armour.

Spidey follows suit and webs up the Beetle's suction cups.

With just a couple of tweaks, I could definitely see this Beetle as a horror villain. Kinda reminds me of the Mondas Cybermen.

It's weird seeing Abe as a villain, but weirder still seeing him presented as a credible villain and not just a schmuck.
Especially with that outfit.
It's a combination of goofiness between the bucket helmet, the giant poofy wings, the unflattering jumpsuit look and the elongated fingers.


Probably a good thing Peter didn't take that photo. You know the Daily Bugle could've gotten an article about it.

Beetle kinda jumped back and forth as a major threat, didn't he?

One of my first Spidey issues was the Sinister Syndicate nearly killing Spider-man and Silver Sable, if it weren't for Sandman.

Hell, he's one of the few villains I can think of who had his own criminal devoted to his own downfall in the Ringer's wife (can't remember her name).

Now I'm wondering what his last major plotline was before he became a Thunderbolt...

I was very excited to see my favorite Superman writer, Elliot S! Maggin in the credits, thinking he was perhaps going to become the regular writer. Alas, just a one-off.
