Gotham City Mayor Chris Nakano confided in Commissioner Renee Montoya that he was under pressure from "outside forces" who want change in Gotham. So Vandal Savage was apponted the new police commissioner. It happen in Batman #146.
"So, here's our new commish. And before you say anything, I know that he's a mass murdering psychopath who invented cannibalism and murder. But he's our mass murdering psychopath who invented cannibalism and murder, so I expect you all to give your all while working under him."
Commander Star looks very trustworthy and totally legit, and I'm sure he'll go on to have a long and productive career as a hero. I can't wait until he gets his own series.
I really hope this goes uninterrupted by any label-wide crises. I'm still rooting for Zdarsky, but I feel Gotham War derailed the crap out of his last story.
At least when Thunderbolts did it there was the fact a lot of the major Marvel heroes were dead, and some of them were just as confused by it.
I'm sure Murderman got his name merely because he's either slightly obsessive about crows, or he turns into a group of crows. Definitely nothing sinister.
When the Thunderbolts did it, only one of them came off as an obvious Murderman on camera and a local cop immediately fell in love with him so I guess the social commentary checks out.
(Josten was such a bad choice for that mission.)
The other Thunderbolts were good enough at hiding it that only some of the other criminals they victimized and Black Widow noticed.
Yeah, the answer is probably just some awful "because he's Batman," but seriously, how does he get away with just throwing down a ninja smoke bomb in the middle of a street in broad daylight before escaping unseen? The surrounding buildings are distant enough that people would be able to see him batlining away! It's 'suspension of disbelief'-able in dead of night atop a tall building to drop from, but in this situation I find it preposterous.
With the rare exceptions, GCPD are some of the most incompetent cops on the planet so I think your average Gothamite could smoke bomb their way out of that.
