Star Wars next crossover event is the ominous sounding:"Dark Droids"

I like that Luke is seen as being polite to Artoo, he ask him for something (rather than orders him) and then thanks him.
We also see Vader sparring with a combat droid who it is very unlikley he was polite to.
We see how versatile and omnipresent droids are....

And that's all ver... Wait.... Hang on a moment... What was that middle one again?

Excuse me... WHAT???
I mean, I know Lando is pansexual, but does this suggest he wants to... well... actually fuck the Millenium Falcon???
God, I hope he washed the seats down before handing it back to Han.
I appreciate this is reference to L3-37, but that was already an awkward plot point in "Solo" (What was their relationship? Was it a healthy one, Would L3 be able to say "No" to Lando?)
And here we meet the villain of the story, the former-Spark-Eternal/soon-to be Scourge... an ancient, Sith-hating AI which recently had a long story arc in Doctor Aphra's title which ended, with it being stuck in what looked to be some sort of disc drive, but is clearly something more.

Is it a little unfortunate, or absolutely deliberate, that it looks like Braniac's symbol, I wonder?
Given the proliferation of droids in the GFFA, and their VERY inconsistent treatment… Are they sentient? Are they not? Should they have rights? This looks to be a story that I'm surprsed hasn't been used before, well not that I'm aware of.

Date: 2023-07-30 01:26 pm (UTC)I know it’s probably an ancient Jedi text, but it feels so dang cursed seeing a Star Wars character read an actual book.

(2) try to explain why this actually isn't problematic at all and get less convincing the longer you spend trying to convince everyone, or (3) admit it is problematic and pretend that just making the admission is the same as addressing the problem. Nothing really works here! This is why superhero comics don't focus on the "legality of vigilantism" question either!

Date: 2023-07-31 06:36 am (UTC)There's a LOT to lose, and very little to gain, by wandering down these hyperspace lanes. It pushes the established characters into very unflattering lights or tries to push at the bounds established by canon. Especially in the time where 'all official published media is canon' , the comics are really constrained by what they can tell in this original saga era.
The only era where you could get away with this sort of story with lasting changes to characters and setting, the post sequel trilogy, is the era where the comics and books aren't really allowed to dwell, because Disney is still figuring out their plan of where to go.
The best story we're going to get out of this is someone who has a point, but probably takes it way too far, like a human genocidal Magneto, that the heroes have to stop and then *maybe* admit he had some points, before shuffling off to the next story or canon event.

I guess, and Luke does go above and beyond to rescue the droids, way more than any of the droids expected an organic to, but still, he's maintaining the "ownership" status quo and it gets a little uncomfortable.

Date: 2023-07-31 12:34 am (UTC)Like, C-3P0 and R2-D2 were basically people already but that "basically" allowed me some distance from the idea that they were sentient beings because maybe they were just programmed to act like a bickering married couple.
Then Solo straight-up says droids are people and then they stuff the soul of one into the Falcon.
