Well, going back to my original point, I don't particularly see two different companies having the same basic story as being that big a deal but people do notice.
It's the endless sequels and remakes that convince most people that the storytellers are out of ideas.
Then you have the more involved audiences who criticize things because they think "every Marvel movie is the same" or "every Marvel Comics event is Civil War" or "that specific director/creator keeps making the same movie/comic" but there are considerably less of those people even though you're more likely to find them in fan communities like this. Sometimes I'm one of them.
