Young Bruce, post-parents' death, idolized a Gotham police detective (think Dick Tracy) and tried to work with him on a case and learn firsthand from a real detective the art of detective work. He didn't want to be recognized, so he created a disguise, the first Robin uniform, after having learned to sew in the Sea Scouts. This was a late fifties story done in the Dick Spang style. I know the detective's name was Harris---Harvey Harris? Anyway, the detective used some clues Bruce left to eventually figure out the identity of the young "Robin" and left Bruce a letter to be sent after his death pointing out young Bruce's mistakes and how it could lead to his exposure later on.
