I'm with you on being a kid reading The Long Halloween issue to issue. I even had a lengthy letter published in the New Year's issue, wherein I espoused all my theories. It was great, involving fun. But man, after that last issue, and watching Loeb go through all the motions again in Dark Victory, there was just no going back.
I'd agree that they gave it a SENSE of richness, but only a sense. The stories are fundamentally empty: all posturing and splash pages, but devoid of depth, original ideas, or humanity. In my opinion, the animated series accomplished the overall mythos feel of Batman far better, with much better writing to go with the spectacular and moody artwork. That latter part is all TLH had going for it. Try to imagine that book with a different, more standard artist, and it just falls apart.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
