The most terrifying fungus of them all
Saturday's comic shows the true terror of the fungus kingdom in SHROOM At The Top!

Cordyceps
They are real! Cordyceps fungi attack insects in real life, but the cycle is the same: bug gets spored, bug climbs tree, bug's head explodes into even more spores. It's one of those awe/fear-inducing wonders like pistol shrimp and lantern fish that makes a comic artist want to go back to his home planet.
As an added bonus(?) some cordyceps are sold in Eastern medicine as an aphrodisiac, which (to me) is like selling hammers as a headache remedy.
