As you say, Superman can't change the world in an ongoing. But to address that by having Superman preach about how important it is to do things for yourself, rather than 'stuff is complicated and can't be solved by applying brute force', is a very patronising, 'bootstraps' kind of moral. It just reeks of the 'for your own good' morality, like there's some kind of virtue in suffering.
