'The challenge is mixing the light aspect of the character and the fun of it with real stakes because as much as I love the original Golden Age Captain Marvel stories, they were zero-stakes stories. They were kid stuff, which is what they should have been. But they were all about, "Oh, Captain Marvel finds a piece of thread that leads into another dimension, or Captain Marvel finds Sivana the 51st time, and he's busy wiping out language," or something like that, rather than trying to take over the world in a reasonable way. So, I don't want to go dark with it. I don't want to go evil, heavy, or horrific with it, but at the same time, there will be stakes.' - Mark Waid
